Design Reveal: Exposing the ceilings!
If you have ever been in a basement with a drop-tile ceiling, then this reveal post will be a fun one to see! This space is extra fun because it's the basement of my husband's childhood home. It was a low-key project that I fit into the last bit of 2020...the kind where I had nothing to stress over. I had complete control design wise----my in-law's had handed over total trust. So one day in the Fall as we sat on vacation in Door County (if you've been, you KNOW how relaxing it is!) I ordered the tile, and so it began. The goal: to celebrate Christmas together in the new space.
Here's the before:
The project creep was real...one thing leading to the next...but all things that just made for a better ending reveal. We demoed a wall to one of the bedrooms to make ONE super long room instead of the smaller living room area.
Here was the plan:
One long room. Two living spaces. And the extra closet area would house the sauna. I planned to repurpose their existing sectional (but swing it to the other end of the space), and then buy some new furniture pieces to make it all come together. Expose and paint the ceilings. New lighting to make it feel WAY brighter. New floors--that we would install ourselves.. And then a transformation of the stairs!
I MEAN....CAN YOU EVEN?! The flooring. The lighting. Those stairs! DROOL.
I absolutely adore the gallery wall...it fills out this long wall perfectly. P.S.- I went to FIVE targets to find enough of those frames to keep my Christmas deadline! ;)
The top of this hutch is for looks, and the bottom houses board games and grandkid toys.

BEFORE + AFTER:
It's the exposed ceiling for me. I just swoon over the difference as I stare at these photos. One of those moments where the potential was LITERALLY waiting to be uncovered.
OH...and in case you wondered...
